In West Sussex, the Voluntary and Community Sector works with a wide range of people and communities, providing valuable services that meet local needs across the county.
It is important that these organisations and groups are supported to help them to carry out this work as well as possible. The support services that can help these Voluntary and Community Organisations develop their work are known as Infrastructure Organisations. Local Infrastructure Organisations in West Sussex include: the eight Councils for Voluntary Service, West Sussex VOLG, Action in rural Sussex, Black and Minority Ethnic Infrastructure Organisations, and many others. In December 2007 the West Sussex Changeup Consortium produced two important documents. These are:
These set out a vision for further development and improvement of support services to all Voluntary and Community Organisations in the county.
The West Sussex ChangeUp Steering Group, includes representatives from the Voluntary & Community Sector and the Statutory Sector and will oversee the implementation of the strategy and plan.
ChangeUp is important because:
- It gives organisations and groups the chance to decide what support they need and to access that support.
- Local Infrastructure Organisations can help organisations and groups to develop in ways that meets the needs of the communities they work with and represent.
- ChangeUp has influenced the funding and other plans of Local Authorities and will continue to do so.

CapacityBuildersWest Sussex ChangeUp development is funded by Capacitybuilders. Capacitybuilders also funded a number of projects in West Sussex.
